Medical device distributors and buyers in Denmark: who buys what, and how

Start with the product and its use

Denmark is a small, concentrated market: five regions buy for the hospitals, 98 municipalities buy for elderly and home care, and a handful of distributors — several of them Nordic groups — carry most consumables. Match the channel to the product before approaching anyone.

How Denmark buys

The five regions (Hovedstaden, Sjælland, Syddanmark, Midtjylland, Nordjylland) run their own hospital tenders and, since 2014, joint tenders through Regionernes Fælles Indkøb (RFI), where one region leads a tender for all five and holds supplier dialogue sessions beforehand. Amgros is the regions’ pharmaceutical procurement body but also runs selected device tenders with RFI (irrigation fluids, elastomeric pumps, strategic stockpile). Municipalities and the state buy nursing supplies through SKI framework agreements. All above-threshold notices appear on udbud.dk and TED.

Regulation: since 28 May 2026 manufacturers, importers and authorised representatives register only in EUDAMED, while Danish-established distributors still register with Lægemiddelstyrelsen (fee applies). Danish-language instructions for use and labels are expected. The industry association is Medicoindustrien, whose member list includes both manufacturers and distributors.

• Kirudan no longer exists as a separate company — its business is Mediq Danmark (Frederiksberg); Danpleje became OneMed A/S.
• Asker Healthcare Group’s planned acquisition of Kirstine Hardam was discontinued in 2026; Hardam stays with KMT Medical Europe.
• Triolab took over QuidelOrtho’s Nordic diagnostics business in 2026.

Questions to qualify a distributor

• Which regional frame agreements and SKI agreements does it hold, and when do they expire?
• Does it cover hospitals, municipalities or both — and does it serve citizens on bevilling (prescription supply)?
• Who handles Danish labelling, vigilance and the distributor registration?
• How are first orders, repeat orders and complaints reported back?
